Fly With The Firebird
The Gibson Firebird rocks a reverse body and headstock design as originally introduced in 1963 and was Gibson's first neck-through-body design. The traditional 9-ply mahogany/walnut neck through body construction provides rich, warm tonality and incredible sustain. A slim taper neck with a bound, rosewood fingerboard and acrylic trapezoid fingerboard inlays offers fast and effortless playability. The newly refreshed Firebird is outfitted with the redeveloped Alnico V Firebird pickup to recapture the scorching output and searing tones of the original voice for which the Firebird is known.

Great service from Rainbow Music, guitar arrived safely and well set-up. Despite Gibson’s up and down quality control, this guitar was flawless and the shop set it up with a comfortable easy action. It stays in tune very well regardless of how much bending is done. The mini-humbuckers have a sound all their own. Despite the awkward looking shape I find the guitar with its body contouring sits comfortably whether standing or in a sitting position. It looks as if it would be heavy but is a very comfortable weight. The neck also looks as though it’s longer than normal giving the impression you need to stretch your arm out further, but of course it’s no different to most guitars and unless you have really short arms or hold the guitar body further forward I don’t think you would really notice any difference. Without doubt it’s very eye catching and has a sound all its own, the neck/fingerboard is comfortable although very different from a Les Paul or Strat – I play a number of guitars so it’s just a case of another guitar with its own feel. As always, it’s best to try out a guitar in the shop when possible.
